Yarranabbe Dreaming - the Rushcutters Community Co-Design Festival

Events all week
A community focused event as the first of 4 stages of a full month program of community organising and activation. This is week would focus on the concept of "Alert" informing and inspiring the community to action through a Collective Action framework to mitigate the impacts of climate change at a local scale in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. It will serve as a foundational phase of community engagement and co-design for Healing Yarranabbe, a precinct scale regenerative urban design leveraging Blue Green Infrastructure to mitigate climate change, while creating a great urban park. This activation seeks to create an interactive space where residents, experts, artists and stakeholders can connect, learn and creatively collaborate. To host the event are renting the Drill Hall in Rushcutters Bay from March 10th through April 4th for four weeks of talks, events and activities to help draw the community to our co-design activities and convene the community around a need for action. Week 1 - "Alert to the need to change" we hope to do in partnership with CAW and Greenhouse. Week 2 - "Heart of change" we hope to do in partnership with Critical Path, a dance and culture collective. Week 3 - "Mind of change" we hope to undertake in partnership with the Sydney Environment Institute, Tooronga Zoo, SIMS and the Botanical Garden along with the Committee for Sydney. Week 4 - "Action for change" we hope to undertake with the Ocean Lovers Festival as part of their city-wide week of actives and action. This is very much a bootstrap initiative, leveraging the exceptional space which has both a large open central room which is 20 metres by 11 metres, and four upstairs rooms with an attractive wrap around balcony. It has tables, chairs suitable for a broad range of events. We have sponsors who are willing to assist in a shared catering arrangement and provision of AV equipment all event partners can share. We are looking for partners who can self-organise an event in the space which aligns to our themes, and have the capacity to book, promote, host and breakdown their own event. It is hoped that we can find 20 such groups for a vibrant and exciting month which will additionally draw a large number of co-design participants to us.
